Discover John 3:16

Discover and experience the goodness of God, and the immensity of His love

Hi there! Welcome to the Discover John 3:16 Page. First things first, this is something you should know. You are not here by accident.

Your very presence here has been ordained before the beginning of time itself.

You are here for a reason. There is a purpose behind you coming here, and a purpose behind you reading this.

You, like many others, have experienced pain and suffering in this life.

Your very presence here has been ordained before the beginning of time itself.
You are here for a reason. There is a purpose behind you coming here, and a purpose behind you reading this. You, like many others, have experienced pain and suffering in this life. No one has been immune to it. No one escapes the storms that this life throws at us.

You know this, because you’ve felt that pain too.
It may have been a personal loss – the loss of a loved one or a relationship.
Or maybe a physical loss – you’ve been suffering with a sickness, or a physical impairment.
Or maybe a financial burden that you just can’t seem to shake off.
It may be mental pain that you may be going through.
Or maybe even an emotional trauma that is constantly holding you back.
You may be filled with guilt and shame for something you’ve done. You may be feeling lonely, rejected, hurt, despised…lost.

And I know it hurts. You’ve fought it for so long and you don’t know what to do.

But know this – you are here for a reason. You are here to hear a very important truth. A truth that will change your life.

HE loves you.

HE loves you.

HE loves YOU.

He loves you so much that He died for you. And He died to take your place – to take your shame, your pain, your guilt, your burdens.

So that you may be free.

It doesn’t matter what you’ve done, or where you’ve been, or what you’re going through. He wants you to come to Him. You’ve tried everything else, and it hasn’t worked out. Come to Jesus now. Only He can truly help you. Only He can truly love you.

Jesus is calling you home. Come to Him.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."

Did Jesus really exist? What is the evidence?

The answer is that there’s a great deal of evidence: first of all, outside of the New Testament.

The Roman historian Tacitus talks directly about Jesus. The Roman historian Suetonius talks indirectly about him. The first-century Jewish historian, Flavius Josephus, says this — he’s talking about Pilate, Pontius Pilate, and he says:

Now, there was about this time Jesus, a wise man — if it's lawful to call him a man, for he was a doer of wonderful works, a teacher of such men as receive the truth with pleasure. He drew over to him both many of the Jews and many of the Gentiles.

And then he goes on to talk about his crucifixion and his alleged resurrection.

So there's evidence outside the New Testament that Jesus existed. But more important, there’s evidence inside the New Testament.

Some say, `Well, the New Testament was written a very long time ago. How do we know that what they wrote has not been changed over the years?’ And the answer is we do know very accurately, through the science of textual criticism, what the original writers wrote. And essentially, the more manuscripts we have, and the earlier they are, the less doubt there is about the original.

So let’s compare other ancient texts. So, for example, you’ll see Herodotus and Thucydides were both written in the fifth century BC. The earliest copy that we have is AD 900, there’s a 1300-year time lapse, and we have 8 copies of each. Tacitus, there’s a thousand-year time gap, we have 20 copies. Caesar’s Gallic War: 950 years, 9 to 10 copies. Livy’s Roman History: 900-year gap, 20 copies. When it comes to the New Testament, the New Testament was written between 40 and 100 AD, we have manuscript evidence as early as AD 130 and full manuscripts by AD 350. And we have 5,309 Greek manuscripts, 10,000 Latin and 9,300 others.

So one of the greatest textual critics ever, F. J. A. Hort, said this:

In the variety and fullness of the evidence on which it rests, the text of the New Testament stands absolutely and unapproachably alone amongst ancient prose writings

— and no secular historian would disagree with that conclusion.

Sir Frederick Kenyon, who’s an expert in this field, sums it up like this:

The interval, then, between the dates of original composition and the earliest extant evidence becomes so small as to be in fact negligible, and the last foundation for any doubt that the Scriptures have come down to us substantially as they were written has now been removed. Both the authenticity and the general integrity of the books of the New Testament may be regarded as finally established.

Come, see what God has done
